Annual Santa Parade, Pilgrimage and Lighting of the Trees
November 24th, 3pm - The Santa Parade in Lunenburg
This season will mark the 10th annual Santa Parade which was started in 2008 by a dedicated group of volunteers. It has grown significantly over these fews years and is now the biggest small town parade in Nova Scotia with over 50 floats decorated by surrounding groups and businesses who sponsor these Christmas events in Lunenburg. This year, the parade will start at 3pm and will wind from Blockhouse Hill along Lincoln Street towards the Bluenose Academy via Falkland Street. Many businesses will be serving hot chocolate and cider and there will be many treats for the kids during the parade! Please come out and join in the festivities, or get directly involved in the fun by entering a float for your group or business this year. Just check out our parade application and contact us.
November 24h, 7pm - The Pilgrimage and Lighting of the Trees
This is an annual event that has been organized for over twenty years in our town. The Pilgrimage is a fun re-creation of the First Christmas including the singing of carols and the telling of the Christmas Story by our local Churches. The pilgrimage begins at St. John's Anglican Church where the live Nativity is joined by members of the community to walk through the streets of town, singing Christmas carols as they approach the town square, where the trees are waiting to be lit.
The trees are placed on the hill around the Town's Band Stand are sponsored by businesses and individuals to promote more Holiday cheer and spirit, with the town's main tree on the bandstand, overlooking all the others. After the reading of the Christmas story, the switch is turned on, lighting all the trees in a magnificent display. Hot drinks and refreshment follow in the Central United Church hall. Come join us this year for a song or two and a cup of hot chocolate afterwards!
